Turkeys in Disguise Activity
Students absolutely LOVE this activity! First, I read the story Turkey Trouble, by Wendi Silvano with my class. This gets their creative juices going as they think about the many different disguises their turkeys could use to survive Thanksgiving dinner. Afterward, I send home a parent letter explaining the activity along with a turkey template. I like to print the template on cardstock so that it’s more durable since I display the finished products in my classroom!
Students come up with a disguise for their turkey and complete their crafts at home. I like to give them a week to complete it, and I’m always amazed by their creativity! When they bring their disguised turkeys back to class, they complete a short info sheet about their turkey. This helps them brainstorm and organize their thoughts, which is great preparation for the next step!
Finally, I have students write a persuasive story from the turkey’s perspective. Students must think creatively as they attempt to convince someone that they aren’t a turkey, but are instead what they’re disguised as. You’ll love the hilarious stories your students write!
Create a Thanksgiving Display with Your Students’ Turkeys!
The last, and most exciting step, is to create a unique Thanksgiving display featuring your students’ turkey crafts! Students absolutely love seeing their finished products on the wall. Also you get an amazing, one-of-a-kind holiday bulletin board out of it!
I’ve gathered each of these items together and created a ready-to-go resource. It’s complete with the turkey craft template, parent letter, info sheet, and writing prompt pages (both primary and regular lined paper options included). I’ve also created bulletin board letters, a banner, and board decor to compliment your students work on your display! Just print and go!
