Halloween Activities for the Classroom
The excitement that surrounds Halloween is undeniable. It’s tough to get students to focus leading up to the holiday. I feel your pain! Instead of competing with that sugar-packed, fun-filled excitement, channel that energy into a fun celebration with your class! I want to share several entertaining Halloween activities for the classroom that will have your students engaged and eager to participate!
If My Teacher Turned Into a Witch or Frankenstein
First let’s talk about the fan-favorite “If my teacher turned into a witch or Frankenstein.” This Halloween writing craftivity is the perfect way to get your students’ creative juices going. I’ve had hundreds of teachers tell me this was the most engaging and fun writing activity they did with their class the whole year! You’ll love the hilarious responses your students come up with. And afterward you can create a festive bulletin board display out of the finished products!
Halloween Party Scoot
This next activity is one of my favorites! Add this high interest Halloween Party Scoot to your collection of classroom games, and you won’t regret it! There’s virtually no prep work involved (just print, cut, and play). Also, the game can last as long as you want it to, so it’s perfect for any time slot you have!
This game can also be adjusted to fit different ability levels. For K through 1st grade, I recommend doing it as a center where the adult can read the card and the students follow the action. However, for 2nd through 5th grade it can be played as a “Scoot” game. Have a card at each desk (or placed in different spots around the classroom). While playing Halloween-themed music, the student performs the action on the card for 10-15 seconds, and when the music stops they freeze. Then each person moves to the next station/card. You’ll have your students laughing and engaged with this Halloween Party Scoot!
Halloween Writing Craftivities
Here’s another fun Halloween Writing Craftivity with multiple prompts that can last you all month! This resource includes brainstorming pages, practice sentence sheets, final draft pages, as well as multiple toppers for decorating. Your students will love this creative writing exercise, and you can use it year after year!
More Halloween Activities!
There are so many great Halloween activities for the classroom. Another fun game you can play is “The Great Pumpkin Hunt!” Hide a bunch of mini or plastic pumpkins around your classroom, and have students search for them. The person or team that collects the most wins! Instead of buying a bunch of pumpkins, you could even have students draw or create pumpkins out of construction paper and hide those instead.
And who doesn’t love a good “Pin the Stem on the Pumpkin” activity?! Create a large pumpkin out of cardboard or poster board with separate stem pieces. Create enough stems for each student in class. Have students write their names on their stem, and then take turns placing the stem on the pumpkin while blindfolded. Whoever gets closest to the target wins!
Now for a freebie! Here’s a fun Halloween Activity Book you can grab from my TpT shop for free! And while you’re there, check out more Halloween themed resources in my shop!
