My Favorite Bulletin Board Borders
Give me all the neutral borders! You’re going to see a lot of black and white here, and that’s on purpose. Neutral borders go with EVERYTHING. This makes it so much easier to change out your displays without having to re-do your borders every time. I’ll often keep the same outer border up for months at a time. And I just switch out the contents of my bulletin board as the holidays and seasons change.
Also, I really love double layering borders to create displays that pop – and the best way to do it is with these neutral borders! So, here are my favorite bulletin board borders that you can find on Amazon.
Borders with Clean Lines
I love this window pane border! It’s been a favorite for a couple of years now and never gets old. I love pairing it with checkered design elements, but it goes so well with just about anything!
This solid black border is a classic. Talk about versatile – this border will literally complement any display! And if you’re double layering your borders, this solid border will look amazing with any playful inner border you want to use.
Who doesn’t love a good buffalo check pattern? I love the crisp look of this black and white checkered border. It really says “fall” and “winter” to me, but you could use it in a number of different ways.
Speckled Bulletin Board Borders
This messy dots border is one of my all-time favorites for a reason. It pairs great with pretty much any design. And the non-uniform speckles add a playful, interesting element.
For a twist, this messy dots on black border is a great alternative! I love alternating between these two depending on the look I’m going for.
And this black and white dotted border is another option. This design features more rounded dots than the messy dots border above. But it still has the varying sizes and haphazard design for a unique look.
Playful Scalloped and Loop-de-Loop Borders
I’ve used this loop-de-loop border for years, and it’s still going strong! I love how it adds a sense of whimsy and fun. It pairs so well with ocean or coastal designs, or even with sky/rainbow themes (think “waves” and “clouds”). But it can really go with anything!
And here are two other variations that would make really cute frames for your displays: loop-de-loop on black border and the black and white squiggles and dots border.
Next up is the only color border you’ll see in my best bulletin board borders list! This eucalyptus green scalloped border is refreshing and soothing, especially if it’s paired with a plant or greenery theme. It might not be quite as versatile as the other black and white borders I’ve shown, but it can really elevate your display if paired with a nature-inspired theme.
Lastly, here’s a cute polka dot scalloped border option. I like how small the dots are in this border; they’re not distracting, but still add a festive vibe. And the scalloped edge is always a fun design feature.

Now let’s move along to bulletin board background papers. Again, I’m going to primarily stick to neutral papers so you don’t have to change your background often. Let’s face it, half the struggle with finding time to change out your bulletin board displays is struggling with the background papers and borders! If you can keep those things consistent, then changing the decor, lettering, and banners isn’t nearly as daunting!
First up is my all-time favorite: Fadeless weathered wood background paper. This is the paper I get asked about the most. This is the most versatile background paper I’ve found. And the quality is amazing. You’ll put this paper up once and you can use it over and over again.
This Fadeless school doodles background paper is another fun option. Because of the black and white design, it can pair with any other decor colors you want to place on top of it. While it’s not quite as universal as the weathered wood border above, it can easily pair with tons of different themes you might be using. It’s the busiest of all the background papers I’ll show you, but because of the lighter “chalkboard” design, it doesn’t feel distracting like many papers can be.
Finally, I have two last bulletin board background paper options to share. The Better Than Paper light maple wood bulletin board roll is a nice alternative to the weathered wood paper above if you prefer a lighter wood look. And this Better Than Paper solid black bulletin board roll is another great, neutral option that won’t distract from your decor elements.
